I somehow own an official Beta tape of this, lord knows where I got it from. It seems to have had an excessive amount of tape on it, though, because after the end of the movie I managed to record several hours of afternoon Disney material.

You have no idea how many times I had to record the beginning of this to get that Hi-Tops Video logo to come out clearly without horrifying tracking. I've been told Beta tapes age better than VHS but my collection has not stood the test of time as well as my VHS stuff.

Anyways, in this masterpiece of the modern cinema, a small portly child manages to get himself cursed by an ancient Babylonian statue. Every time he gets hungry he turns into a round, furry, bug-eyed, hilarious looking blue monster with overly dramatic eyebrows.

Somehow a plot about a show poodle gets thrown into the mix and comedic genius ensues.

  • I had the plush toy of My Pet Monster. And I loved both this and the cartoon. If kids of today love either Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Batman, Superman, Marvel Comics, G.I. Joe, Transformers, TMNT, and/or anything else that was popular during the 80s, THEY WOULD love My Pet Monster! Looking back at My Pet Monster, the Monster himself looks like a big rip-off of a Chuck-E-Cheese mascot or a giant Muppet from either Sesame Street or The Muppet Show. Bring this Live-Action flick to DVD!

  • thanks for the upload. you rock!@

  • I used to love this movie when I was 5 years old!

  • Oh, and in the books, the monster was a separate character. Neither Max nor anyone else turned into him.

  • A little different than the book. Max's sister's name is Annabelle and there is no older brother in the book. I'd say it's a good change though.

  • 3:00 and 3:29 good god even Urkel is not that clumsy!!!!

  • @1985Nebraska I've once seen "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" in a $1 DVD bin.

  • how old is this?

  • HOLY CRAP. I have had such a hard time finding info about this movie. I just know that I still think about it every time I hear Monster Mash, but I never remembered enough to formulate a semi-intelligent search for it. Thank you for posting it!!

  • yayyyy thanks for posting this!!!
