uestion about performance:
I have to render a video, where I have multiple glossy objects animated, within pretty high poly environment.
Recently I noticed, in MR material parameters, that it is possible to set reflection distance for the material and then add a fade-out image.
So the question: Will there be any performance gain, if I set reflection distance within furthest moving object and then fade it out to background's HDRi? Instead rendering reflections from whole 20k poly enviroment.

thank you Mr. Bluesummers :)
question.. my sky is totally white, seems like im overexposed.
Floor, shadows and teapot reflections are correct.
In vue, do you save with auto-exposure?
In Max, do you have no exposure control selected?
Thanks again for the great tutorials

Is this Image based lighting?, does it work with the sun and sky System, and does the colour of the sky leak in to the image if i use Global Ilumination ??
you see i know how to do this i Vray, infact it is the only thing i know how to do in Vray, and everyting else i know how to do, i do in Mental ray, and i realy want to have that nice image based lighting i mental ray, cause i only seem to get the background and the reflections, but no light is comming from the HDRI map any idea on what to do?
