Prien, Günther
Commander

Six weeks after the outbreak of war in 1939, U-boat commander Günther Prien became a German national hero, sinking the British battleship, Royal Oak, at anchor in Scapa Flow.

Awarded the Knights Cross for this achievement, Prien went on to sink another 28 ships in the Atlantic.

Like most German U-boat commanders, Prien did not survive the war. On March 7th 1941 his craft was lost with all hands, during an attack by British corvettes and destroyers.

  • @bill24777 The math doesn't add up. If Prien killed your father and Prien was killed in 1941 then that was 69 years ago. Your only 27. Tell us how this could be.

  • My favourite u-boat commander :)

  • YES YES.....and how many murderes your country have in its history???? how many families lost to their parent when your country was AN AGRESSOR????

    GO and read some history

  • My favorite Nazi. :)

  • Earlier he was at U 124, from Joachim Mohr.
