This is a video made by playing a clip of a man riding a bicycle through a patch I created using GEM and Pure Data. The patch blurs, pixelates, and basically destroys images into abstraction with faders to control the amount of various effects. Part of the effects are driven by an audio track I created in Ableton using a Monome to sequence drums through Monochrome.

  • I used the "threshold~" object to detect levels in an audio file, sent those through some math objects to control to get the values in the range I of the faders, and then plugged inthem in the the fadersthat control the effects. I also ahve tried using "adc~" plugged into the threshold object and then feeding audio in trough a mic, but I liked using the audio file better.

  • Could be cool, but the video quality is just too low. Hard to appretiate what's going on. OK, it's just abstract video synthesis, but still, too pixelated. Please, upload an HD version.

  • Good job !

How did you manage to record your video. By using the "pix_record" object ?

  • you need to extract data from the sound file. Perhaps taking the numbers you get from the snapshot object, or any other number box that might control osc~

  • how do you get audio to interact with picture in PD? What objects do you use?
