The Senate President and House Speaker came together to announce a joint house resolution asking Congress to hold a constitutional convention strictly and specifically to add an amendment calling for a balanced budget. Florida will be the 20th state to do so, and it requires 34 states to do so. The James Madison Institute, along with the Chamber of Commerce and Florida Tax Watch, endorsed the plan.

  • @dkesselr1 You are exactly right. 2 former Supreme Court Justices, Justice Burger and Justice Goldberg, have both written that there is no legal mechanism for limiting the scope of the convention. Based on my studies, I agree with them.

  • Does stating that the Constitutional Convention be for the sole purpose of an amendment to balance the budget make it so? I have heard that if there is a Constitutional Convention, all the rest of the current amendments are up for grabs as well. There do not seem to be any rules or laws that will protect us the people from those unelected convention members.
