No Condemnation - COGIC Heritage Tribute

Does anyone remember No Condemnation? For many years, this song was a staple in COGIC churches and now it's a part of that heritage. While it has been sung by others, COGIC put a stamp on it. This rendition is a field recording of a COGIC church service in Mississippi, done by Fisk University in the late 1930s. It's rough and a little raw--but it's real.

It is a little hard to understand. It's an old song taken from the scripture (Romans 8:1). And this is being sung in a testimony service; so, it's a variation of the original.

Elsie Washington Mason was actually Bishop Mason's third wife. His second wife was the mother of his children. His first wife left him in the very early years of his life and ministry

I thought that the words to this song was "There is no condemnation in my life". This was the expected answer after one has received the baptism in the holy ghost. I thank God because I know that there is no condemnation in my life.

A little older than her? I may get in trouble for saying this, but we all know what a praying and fasting man Bishop Mason was. He didn't believe in remarraying while is divorced wife was still living, something that is not practiced in the church today. He had to stay praying and fasting because Bishop had flesh just like us. He was a mighty man of God with a great annointing of the Holy Ghost, but he was not perfect. When that first wife died, we know what was on Mason'mind. He married young.
