@Windamor I think the common thread here is "humans". Cats, of course, are never at fault for following their instincts. Any problems which arise from domestic cat overpopulation and therefore decimation of wild species (e.g. extinction of songbird species by domestic cat hunting), is the fault of human hands. Similarly, any problems which arise from the meat industry are also the fault of humans. Therefore, it could be said, a bell around a cat's neck is a step in the right direction.

@northernbluebear I just don't get it: is it more sad that they eat birds, rats and mice than them getting industrialized meat from animals born in captivity?

@Windamor Yes, that is precisely why people put bells on cats; to keep them from sneaking up on prey.

Why is it wearing a bell? It is not for its own sake as the ringing must be irritating for the cat. Furthermore it won't be able to hunt and sneak as cats love to do.
