  • So, saying that you knew me personally, and let's assume that you knew that I am a true Christian and I do believe in sacramental union, would I be allowed to receive Communion, even though I'm not a Lutheran?

  • Hi again...I must apolgize to you in that I misread your question. I did not see the part about believing in the sacramental union. That's good! But for fellowship two Christians should have the same belief in ALL doctrines. If that was the case you might be able to take the Lord's Supper at my church. But I would want to know why you don't belong to the Lutheran Church IF you believe all the the Lutheran Church teaches. Sorry for the confusion. Pastor Lassman

  • I'm not a Lutheran because I consider myself an ecumenical Christian. I believe that God has called me to minister to all Christians, not just those that fit the evangelical bill. In my study of the Bible, I support the prohibitionist stance, which conflicts the use of alcohol in the Eucharist. I do not believe in infant baptism, based on the apostolic accounts of baptisms (and supported by the Didache). I advocate an episcopal polity. I prefer a mix of taditional and contemporary worship.

  • Hi..well, for sure you have some teachings that I don't agree with so that would mean we could not have fellowship at the Lord's Table because of our differences (that would be hypocrisy to say we are one when we are not). Someone, you or me, is misrepresenting Christ. That's always the issue. But I always appreciate hearing from you. Pastor Lassman

  • Regarding communion, is there a certain procedure that the Lutherans use if the communion host is accidentally dropped on the floor by the recipient? Or if some of the wine is accidentally spilled?

  • you might get a modest difference to answer this among Lutherans in different times and places but the one thing that would hold them all together is respect for the elements as the carriers of Jesus' body and blood. In my case, any host dropped on the carpet at my church is picked up and placed on the altar. It is later placed in the "receptical" of uneaten hosts. For spilled wine we try to wipe it as respectfully as we can with the appropriate communion cloths (purificator). Pastor Lassman

  • It is also advisable to not eat or drink one our before going to the communion.

  • might be able to take the Lord's Supper at who's church?

  • If you have not gone to confession for a long time it is very good to do so before the high mass.

  • Granted, I believe that we are one in that we both agree on matters of salvation, God and human nature, which I think are the only fundamental beliefs in Christianity. So, while we may not take part in the sacrament together, we are in spiritual communion.

    The feeling is mutual. :)

  • Thanks for the reply! I believe it works the same way in the Catholic Church, but I was wondering how it worked on your end. I have never personally seen it happen though.
