I've owned my Mk III 3000 since 1984. I never unzip the rear window before folding the top, and it does just fine. You just have to be careful not to let it buckle, but fold in a smooth curve and stuff it behind the rear seat back frame.

Chrome wires- very un BMC !!

You never fold the top down without unzipping the plastic window first--otherwise it gets distorted.
