I heard this song when I was a little kid and loved it... I spent years trying to find out who did it and where I could get it... never had any luck until recently.
Betty Foley was great. Listen to some of her other stuff. Her decision to retire was the music world's loss

hi, I only ask one thing about this song. Was this song not be called "race music" at the time? Not trying to be ignorant, just know that many musicians at the time were given a hard time because they were doing music originally done by black musicians, elvis had problems about this too

You know what's amazing about this song (other than the obvious - great vocals, great lead, haunting melody, etc.)?
NONE of the lines in this song rhyme! NONE of them! It's written more like a statement than a lyric. Is it based on a poem?
