How to repair a malfunctioning Moen Positemp shower/tub valve. One of the most popular shower valves installed today.
This is a slightly longer version which includes thoughts on doing it yourself or hiring a plumber for this job.
Step by step instructions on how to save hundreds of dollars on this easy to do repair.
This particular valve did not let any hot water flow. The problem could have been one of many others, limited cold water flow, dripping, or others.
I'll show you how to replace the Moen cartridge - which has the entire inner workings of the valve.

  • I appreciate the very helpful video. You're right about the cartridge puller. Fortunately I found one a Home Depot for $14.00. The 1222 Moen cartridge cost me $39...yikes. A bunch more than the sink cartridge.

  • @fotobymike Ferguson Wholesale Plumbing Supply has the OEM 1222 for $49.00 are you sure you bought OEM? that is cheapest I ever heard of.

  • @ramonasplumber Good price. Have you checked your Water Pressure? I think you have trouble brewing. You need a Pressure gauge and test at a hosebib with no water running for an hr. and also know what is incoming water pressure to the Regulator

  • @romonasplumber As a plumber in florida I can and will say good job. You made this simple for a home owner. And you can save home owners some money! I work for myself and when I get calls for this I wonder why they haven't looked for this on Youtube. Good work!

  • @flagface4 Few will DIY, fewer will learn first. As a Plbr. I have seen what those who will DIY can do to make something bad, even worse! I hope to tell them do it right or call a pro. If I can get the fantasy out of peoples minds that Plumbing is easy I will be happy. Sometimes it is, but one needs to be aware of the pit falls. "Oh I had no idea" is a common response I get from DIY'ers that screwed it up. Now it costs a lot more! you know the twisted off Delta valve trick!

  • @ramonasplumber Moen with the Moen logo on the label with ©2011 Moen Incorporated on the back. It's in display packaging, not the plastic bulk baggy like I got from Moen when I bought a 1225 a few months back. Funny...the house is about 10 years old and this is the third cartridge I've replaced in the last six months.

  • Thanks! You just saved me a call to the plumber.
