The city girl Kate falls in love with farmer Lem. He takes Kate to his family farm but Kate has trouble being accepted by the family. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, better known as F. W. Murnau (December 28, 1888 - March 11, 1931), was one of the most influential German film directors of the silent era. A figure in the expressionist movement in German cinema during the 1920s, some of Murnau's films from the silent era have been lost, but most still exist. This was thought to have been a lost film, but a print of the silent 1930 re-release version was rediscovered in 1970. City Girl is the only work of actress Mary Duncan that survives in complete form.
