@winrid Well for starters Mandriva isn't really free, but there is a free one out there but it's not as good as the paid one., and Slackware is not good for new users ...

My poor little computer would have made Blender crash...
Blender 2.5x is awesome though... there are already tons of tuts out there for it's interface. It looks a lot better and easier to find stuff that I only knew the shortcut keys for in 2.49

I love it, Its entirely possible to make it the same as the old interface. If you don't like the look just open a simple older blend file. I did run into some problems not being able open some more complex older files but im sure they will get that fixed. If its the new key binding you don't like, then you can remap any key or add key shortcuts to almost any action, which you couldn't do before. So you can make your extra mouse buttons do things like 'move cursor to selection' etc.

I have no idea why people are running this on Ubuntu, lol, other distributions have much more efficient kernels. Such as Mandriva, or Slackware...

yea like that thing where you left click anywhere thats not a button in the buttons window, and it saves the default settings as the file thats opened. very annoying
