Unfortunately, you can't hear the startup -- I think consoles need a live monitor of blower noise at the start to resolve this : )
The other con of some of the newer starters is time. One organ in Seattle has a brand new blower that takes more than two minutes to start up! I am not sure what the advantage of this is. Its only a 2/9.

No motor starter here or needed. Full voltage and current at startup. That's why they "moan" when they start up because of the full voltage kicking them in the butt to get up to speed. There would be no cool start up sound with one of those new motor starters. Many pipe organ owners are now putting those motor starters on their pipe organ blowers. I hate em, because they are not needed, cost a lot of money, and ruin the signature "start up sound" of these beautiful machines. : - |
