Larval Trematode parasites emerge from an aquatic snail and swim to burrow through the surface of the second intermediate host, a minnow. The larval worm typically forms a cyst in the body cavity of the fish, emerging when the fish (containing the parasite) is eaten by the the next host in the lifecycle, typically a heron. In this case, the larval parasite, Posthodiplostomum minimum, penetrated the eye of a Fathead minnow, and has not yet formed a cyst.
