Eternal Father, strong to save
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy Word
Who walked on the foaming deep
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude
And bid its angry tumult cease
And give, for wild confusion, peace
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea

O Trinity of love and power
Our family shield in dangers hour
From rock and tempest, fire and foe
Protect us wheresoever we go
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea

  • I live close to Halifax, and I can just imagine what it was like when they sung this in the maritime sailor's cathedral that day. Getting to sing this for Remembrance Day is an incredible experience. We are losing our veterans...please don't let their sacrifices be forgotten.

  • US Navy hymn?, Nothing against our friends over the pond but this has been the mariners hymn in the UK as long as we have had mariners, I trust we still have a navy and god bless them.

  • In addition, stored this in my favorites.

  • It took me 15 years to know the title of this divine hymn till tonight when it got featured in an instant Netflix movie I watched searching for it in its title credits... thanks so much for uploading it.

  • Quite right we are, my friend. Luck to you.

  • remember singing this every sunday at hms ganges....... best tune ever

  • I love this song...

  • titanic's song

  • Dear jkilts, this song would not have been sung on the Titanic because the song was not printed in a hymnal until 1940.

  • Hi My GuitarGntlyWeeps, as a former US naval officer, I recall singing this hymn more then 30 years ago. It is a wonderful hymn that came from the UK. Because we call it the US NavyHymn, in no way diminishes the fact that someone over on your side of the pond composed it. Over my naval career I have had the privilege of serving with many of the best of British sailors, and every Sunday, we all sang this wonderful hymn. I hope you understand we, on both sides of the pond are Brothers in arms.

  • after watching Titanic for the billionth time, i have fallen in love with this song <3
