Youtube rant -- layout change, friends, ratings etc

I rant about what's been getting worse about youtube over the years. The new layout and other changed prompted me to finally make this. One thing I forgot to mention about the ratings is that you know that people that are your friends will rate you well. They've added you clearly because they like your stuff so it's a give if they rate they'll rate you well. Those that rate you poorly are strangers you don't know and don't matter anyway. They go around trying to start flamewars just to see if they can make people mad and in the end it doesn't change anything. They think your stuff sucks and you don't and neither mind will change and the video remains. So to me ratings are pretty pointless and why I'm turning them off on this one. If they actually helped with placement on the search I might leave them up, but the experiment with the pumpkin video shows that it most not. That video should have dropped off but it has not. It even came back so how does that work? The only thing I can think of is that it's the views of which there are others that have way more. Youtube doesn't run on logic.

I was very glad we were able to switch back to the old layout when last time they surveyed and despite that masses NOT wanting the change they went and imposed it on us. I'm still expecting that though which is why I also saved a screen cap of this look as well.

I also didn't mention that they did away with our responses being highlighted in yellow. That was a convenient feature when trying to find your response in a sea of verbiage.
I'm so glad the friend thing is gone. Subscriptions are all the matter. No more collections of names. But it's really bad they got rid of "friends can comment automatically". Like I said in the video. That needs to be made a tool not a friending feature.

I show the 2009 version what I liked better than the one that was out before this. I am not over that and I never will be. It's up so it's not forgotten.

3) Format: I have not adopted the new format but have noticed that the present one is confusing to people somewhat unfamiliar with YT (keeping in mind that there are now MANY "video-viewing" sites available). When they go to my address, they do NOT realize the videos on the right are all of MY videos... They simply view the featured video and think that is all there is to see... I think the new format is better in that regard but more confusing in all other regards.

@CVersailles This is why I put up the 2009 version because that was the best one with no confusion to anyone. The fact you only have one good thing to say about the new version shows just how bad it is. I have to walk a lot of people through all these sites that aren't computer savy anyway. Some are worse than others. And these changes make it less and less user friendly even for those that have been here a long time. Thanks for watching this.

2) The ads: I adhered to "monetization" knowing full well I would not be making any real money... (I think I've accumulated about $35 US to date over the course of some years... LOL!) But at the time, YT was putting ads anyway and someone was making money (I don't care how little) from MY productions. I thought it only fair that I be offered a "cut" simply out of principle. Now, as you so well point out, things have escalated with too much clutter and I will opt out when I get a chance.

@CVersailles Yeah I just don't see how you could make any money. Hum, $35 isn't much an since they're your videos you should be getting the larger sum not youtube. I don't blame you for stopping and now the ads are big and worse.

1) Ratings: I agree they are pointless. I never look at them and I often forget to "rate" when I am viewing. I like to comment, though, because it is a true "line of communication" between the viewer and the producer.

@CVersailles Yes you are absolutely right. I think the comments and communication are what matter and what has substance. Ratings are pointless and since they don't even seem to do anything for the search there's no point. I can't stand people that say, "rate me". Why? My friends will like it that's all that matters.

@iphonekidsgames007 They removed it because of people like you. You didn't have thousands of friends. You don't know any of those people and you didn't even watch them. You had a name collection which was pointless so that is the one good thing youtube did in this whole mess. See my video on Friend is a Strong Word.

yes, but I was saying youtube removed all our friends ... unless you know how to show them again... tnx someone of us had 1000s of friends and I really don't subscribe to them but I I will check their channel from time to time but now its all gone...
