Can General Motors be revitalized? It's a question that fills TV producer Stephen Talbot with an eerie sense of déjà vu. In 1993, he posed the very same question in "The Heartbeat of America," a CIR/FRONTLINE co-production that explored how the mighty GM had fallen on such hard times. Watch excerpt. http://www.centerforinvestigativereporting.org/articles/crashtestdummymyrunin...

  • GM is a Stock Ponzi scheme for each generation of top executives (major stockholders). I feel for the American worker who wants a good job just like his dad. Ironically? GM has it's own Medical Insurance Co.

GM began the "revolutionary" car "Company" (division) Saturn, and blackmailed state and Fed governments for 10 years of incentives, including: State w/ most incentives got a factory. Ten years after those completed, Saturn closed and GM lined up at the trough for another government handout.

  • Wow, some things never change, I guess. General Motors management was so arrogant and pig-headed.

Great documentary. Love those Car Talk guys and the reporter, Robert Krulwich.
