This Oklahoma born, New Jersey-raised lady of soul humbled her beginnings as a background vocalist. She sang background for artists like Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, among others. With songs like "Peanut Butter", "Padlock", and her biggest hit "Aint Nothin' Goin' on but the Rent", Gwen Guthrie established herself as an esteem singer-songwriter in the 80's. This is her first single on Island Recordings from the year 1982. This is considered one of the most underrated R&B dance tracks of the 80's. This song has also gained recent notoriety thanks to the GTA Series. You can hear this song in Vice City Stories, which gives this song a newer generation of cult followers to this beautiful music we call R&B. RIP Gwen
