LHC SONG
Verse 1
Down in Switzerland there's a place called CERN
With much to explore and much to learn.
At the largest particle physics lab in the world
There's a tunnel underground where heavy ions are hurled
Along with protons so that science can change the meaning
Of the standard model using these things they're beaming.
This tunnel's called the LHC
And it aims to change the world for you and me.
Chorus
Modelling the big bang via ion collisions
100 000x times hotter than the sun,
We can look at the universe's first conditions
By examining the plasma mode of quark-gluon.
The detector doing this, yeah her name is ALICE,
But let's not forget about the other ones,
Going by the names of CMS and ATLAS,
They look for Dark Matter, Higgs and extra dimensions.
Verse 2
There are 2000 magnets that are superconducting,
Cooled by liquid He to just under 2 Kelvin
And over 1000 of them are dipoles, which bend each beam
While almost 400 quadrupoles focus them in.
So when the head honcho makes the decision
Another magnet squeezes the particles together to create a collision
So that's the magnets of the LHC
Where particles move at 0.99999999c
Chorus
Verse 3
According to a scientific prediction
Higgs is the key to particle mass origin
It's thought that at the beginning the universe had no mass
But once it cooled down a bit, Higgs put an end to that
By establishing a Higgs field throughout the universe
The bosons interacted with particles to make them non-massless
Finding Higgs is one aim of the LHC
Which also looks for missing antimatter via LHCb.
How about that beauty quark?
CMS, why's some matter dark?]
Chorus x2
that is the best thing I've ever seen. Ever.
