Video captured by Graham and Po Wah (a resident) in a public green minibus 59K (Sheung Shui Railway Station - Lin Ma Hang), travelling towards the Man Kam To border crossing.
This is a restricted area. Outsiders are normally granted access only by obtaining a visitor's permit from Fanling Police Station.
The area is 28 square kilometres, fenced in and sits alongside the Shenzhen River. It is bio-diversity rich containing hilly terrain, wetlands and village settlements.
In November 2008 the Hong Kong SAR Government announced the opening up of this zone for development to be carried out in phases by 2012. This will transform the rural landscape as it within yards of Shenzhen, a bustling city with a teeming population of 8 million.
The police do a compulsory permit check on all residents and visitors travelling in public and private vehicles going into and leaving the frontier area.
Illegal immigrants and smuggling are issues they take very seriously.

there appeared to be a policeman on the bus at 10:07, was he going to check that the passengers have a permit or did he find that someone was not carrying a permit?

Thanks for your feedback. The unvarnished beauty and tranquility of the area is something to behold, a sharp contrast to the hustle & bustle of Hong Kong. Let's hope the govnt here can develope this place in a meaningful manner when it eventually opens up.

I notice that you passed through places like Ta Kwu Ling, Sandy Ridge and Man Kam To. You really had a close encounter at the Man Kam To checkpoint at the end.
This is one of the few green minibuses that go into the Frontier Zone that doesn't involve Lok Ma Chau, the others being the 55K to Sha Tau Kok and the 618 to Shenzhen Bay Crossing.
A rare and a pretty good video from a minibus (or bus) standpoint.
