Blind Assistant is a technology, developed at Visilab Research
Center of the University of Messina, that aims to help
visually impaired people through a simple software
able to run on a cheap Sony PSP.
http://visilab.unime.it/~filippo/BlindAssistant/BlindAssistant.htm
The software is open-source. It is based on Nanodesktop SDK.
In this video you can see the version CFW0006 of the core.
The software provides the following functionalities:
- voice clock and calendar
- face recognition
- room recognition
- optical char recognition (based on Tesseract)
- color scanner
- data matrix (2d barcode) scanner
- mail reader
find it kind of intresting that its for the blind however the interface is a mouse drivin GUI.... i would make more sence for a context system that changes on directional pushing. the psp interface can be navagated by me blind however this app i would have a hard time with.
