out of his alien films everyone seems to favor ET, but i prefer this one, theres something about the idea of a secret meeting between humans and aliens. if they were real, something like this would happen, how could something like another alien life possibly be introduced to the world? it would totally go against every religion on the planet. religious groups would try to destroy it. something like that could only ever be done secretly, hidden from the world.
Brilliant comment and as much as I hate to be a suck up I think you're dead right. Humanity is not ready collectively to experience this. That being said I can imagine a simple encounter that involves multiple ships hovering over every major city on the globe and video tape delivering the final blow to religion. I think they'd be wise to merely let us know they exist and then simply vanish without actual contact. I'd settle for that wouldn't you? By the way this is the greatest sci fi ever made.
I don't really see aliens as contradictory to my Christianity. And I think it would be cool to meet some. At my church, we'd invite them over to hang out.
Yeah definatley, I think video tape evidence wouldnt be enough though, theres always some joker who would try to make it out to be fake. The only way they could realize would be to have actual contact, and even then religous groups wouldnt want to beleive it, or maybe make it out to be their own God.
Spielberg hits it or he doesn't. There are many instances where his films are too often drenched with sentimentality. In other words, some of his works are extremely overrated. BUT... on Close Encounters... he gets it.... it's an utterly brilliant movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
77 was a great year with Close Encounters and Star Wars altogether a few years on ET. This movie to me amazes me - they had no CGI this is still a realistic film to watch
