You need a Y adapter, a 3 segment jack (ripped from a pair of headphones), a 4 segment jack ripped from a handsfree headset and headphones.
Plug the Y adapter into iphone.
Plug headphones into one socket.
Plug 3 segment jack with wires sticking out of it into the other.
Plug 4 segment jack into the ipod with wires sticking out of it.
Not sure which wires need to be attached between the two units, but when it is wired correctly, the audio out of the iphone will arrive at mic in of ipod.

Say I needed the other end to be 1/4 inch jack for an audio interface input. Could I just use an adapter?
