@MrJohnnycrabcake ...and you are...?

@Rexworthy The thing many people don't know is..Jaco WANTED to learn how to slap! So I'm sure this was a common discussion between Jaco, Marcus & Stanley.
-
@Jamaicafunk I hear ya man, all I ever see is who's better than who and ohh they hate eah other cause they played differently lol. That ain't music people! music is the collection of all of us musicians playing together :)
-
@Rexworthy That's right. Jaco & Stanley were also friends... People who didn't know created this competition thing between them. It wasn't like that. Great musicians have great respect for one another.
-
@Jamaicafunk That is honestly such ana amazing story I would have given anything to be in your shoes! And thanx for the response I love hearing about Jaco and Marcus back in the day :) I just have a feeling they were alot better friends than most people even think.
-
@Rexworthy I went to see Marcus back in the day at 55 Grand St. Playing with Lenny White & Bernard Wright. Jaco walked in after getting cleaned up about a year after being let go from Weather Report. He sat in playing some of the best PIANO you've ever heard. Yes.. Jaco & Marcus played together!

@storytellers82sucks True say yo, he prob never actually got taught by Jaco but guarenteed he did show him a few little secrets here and there cause two of the best in the world at that time would obvi be friends and meet more then just once in a hotel.
-
@Rexworthy Yeah, it confirms for me that Jaco *didn't* teach Miller. He's just saying they met in a hotel once and played together a bit and Jaco showed him a finger exercise. That's far different from being "taught" by him. To say he was "taught" by Jaco implies it was more than a finger exercise.

@storytellers82sucks Yoooo so I tried searching for a vid and enter this in youtube (Marcus Miller's talking about the room 219 with Jaco Pastorius) and skip to about 1:20 seconds in, marcus starts talking and he comments about a joke where jaco calls him and tells him to "come to room 219 for his lesson"
Hope this helps a little, cheers!
Again, i dont think you really understand Marcus's history. He's been performing now for 30 years. He's one of the FEW musicians who were personally taught by perhaps the greatest modern electric bass player Jaco Pastorius. He toured and produced for one of the great jazz musicians of all time Miles Davis. He's doesnt need to do anything now to "impress" young musicians. Why? read the history. He's on the road constantly touring and doing workshops.. why's that? because he's one of the greatest
