nother New Year has come and gone, another Valentine's Day approaches and sales of suck-it-all-in underwear are at record levels. And that's just the men. According to Debenhams, sales of "sculpting T-shirts" rose 317 per cent in the past week as, four weeks into the calendar, men are losing the will to shape up the hard way.
Anyone can diet, but the holy grail for a healthy shape is muscle. Trouble is, it is not easy to come by. It requires sweat, toil, pain and discipline. It is prized by film stars and body builders, and envied by the rest of us.
Little wonder a book that claims to have the quick fix has been a bestseller in the United States. In The 4-Hour Body, which arrived in Britain last week, Timothy Ferriss, a 33-year-old Silicon valley investor and entrepreneur, describes an intense experiment in which he put on almost 35lb in muscle -- two and a half stone -- in four weeks. Not only did he significantly lower his body fat at the same time, he did it with just four hours in the gym.
Ferriss achieved his transformation with simple, yet brutal, methods and just a handful of weightlifting exercises (videos on http://www.ckotrainer.com). These were repeated to what he calls the point of "complete failure". He carried out his exercises painfully slowly -- five seconds up, five down; he never did more than 10 repetitions -- and if he could go beyond 10, he increased the weight until he was back to failure point.
Michael Andreula, Natalie Morales fitness expert, warns that this type of lifting is not for the uninitiated: "Going straight into a programme like this if you're not a regular weightlifter increases the chances of injury. Beginners should take time to become comfortable with the movements, using lighter weights first, and not pushing to 'failure'."

  • i only do 2...maybe 3 pusshups . what should i do to better my self ?

  • @donzaxspeed You have to start somewhere. Just keep pushing!

  • should i train only with kettlebell or could i train multiple programs at the same time

for exampe strenght training with pavel with deadlift and muscle building with the kettlebell. the problem is that doing that i am training 6 times per week is still a lot less than i am used to do but i think that i should probably train only three times per week, example two times to build muscle and one to build strenght. does anyone have any ideia about this

  • @animejoao What is your goal?

  • Try a new way to get things done:

    1. Make a list of things to do to get there

    2. Decide how you can achieve them:

    (a) collaborate with friends

    (b) barter tasks with someone who can help

    (c) challenge someone to get there first

    3. Get things done & track success.

  • my goal is loosing weight and get in shape. i already lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks and i am training 5 days per week. i just feel that i could do less and obtain the same result, i fear i am doing too much, i wonder if i should focus in only one thing, streght or loosing weight.
