this acident was a mecanicial fault set ur minds at rest pte porter and capt bingley were both former 1 rar soldiers and so was jon hadaway though he wasnt killed on operational service all were my friends --I may actually have some footage -no i dont but i
I agree with both W4L3SY and wepsone here. I was a POCSS and spent 3 years on Kanimbla. In addition to being the ORS, I spent many many hours doubling up as the Aircraft Controller. My heart goes out to the pilot, soldier, and their families! I must also say that the speed, angle, and the overall attempted landing is nothing like I have ever seen. Trust me, I am not wanting to lay blame, but I don't like to see the Navy blemished over something that it can't possibly be held accountable for.
id have to agree with wepsone here... im a CSO in the navy and have seen hundreds of deck landings on the flight deck cameras, and the angle the helo came in at i had never seen before either, and nowhere near that quick either
Landing a helo an a ship is one of the most dangerous activities there is. It requires excellent skills and a slow and steady approach from the quarter. I have seen hundreds of deck landings and never seen an approach from this angle or at this speed. Maybe some aspect of the pilots training had been overlooked?
Hmm pilot error I would think. May he rest in peace. wouldn't you think the pilot would notice the speed, and have another try at the landing than risk it? I dunno about anything that kind of stuff so i cant really say much,
R.I.P Bingers & Josh, Proud to have served alongside you both (A Sqn).
