This is a laparoscopic Hellers myotomy for achalasia. Note the mucosa "pouting" when in the correct plane and a generous myotomy extending into the chest. A Dor style fundoplication is performed subsequently as an anti-reflux procedure.
I am now 20 and I received this surgery last year and I would highly recommend it to people suffering with achalsia as long as you have a good surgeon. Every time I ate I would experience chest pain and regurgitate my food. Since the surgery the chest pain has gone, which is such a relief!! I still have some minor symptoms and my stomach constantly makes weird noises lol but it is so much better then before. I`m very happy that I got the surgery.
Anyone here know of someone who has suffered from cancer of the esyphagus/stomach because they had achalasia and/or did not receive this surgery in time?
well im 19 and i lost no wait really i continued to eat even after being diagnosed. it was super hard to swallow i had to use water all the time.. im getting the surgery very soon in phoenix, az. im pretty excited..

Cardio myotomy sounds right...they had to open me down the middle of my stomach. Took a week before my release....another 2 weeks to heal fully.

I highly recommend Dr. Thomas Rice at the Cleveland Clinic. He performed my Heller/Dor 5 years ago.
