What kinds of women choose midwifery care? In the latest release from "I am a Midwife," ten midwives from the US talk about the diverse communities they serve. From Miami to Kansas, Maine to Arizona, from college students to immigrant communities, farmers to lawyers, in the home, hospital and birth centers, midwives provide safe, high-quality and culturally competent care to all kinds of women and their families. Part 1 of 2.

While I appreciate this video, I think MANA is a long way from being able to say that we have the skills needed to serve diverse communities. While it's great that some of the midwives profiled serve diverse clients, I think we have much work ahead in addressing structural and institutional racism, sexism and classism in our midwifery community before we can make the claims made in this video. Let's do our own work and journey together towards a midwifery that can truly be for all women.
