~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nonoy Zuñiga is a product of the oldest university in Asia, University of Santo Tomas. Prior to his singing career, he is also a doctor. His singing prowess was honed when he took special voice training from the late Aurelio Estanislao, a famous tenor singer and music professor at the University of the Philippines. However, he belonged to a family whose line is singing.
His singing career spans more than 3 decades. He started out as a folksinger from 1971 to 1975. Eventually, he landed as one of the lead singers of Family Birth Control Band, one of the hottest group in the country during those days. The band performed in best nightspots and hotels like Philippine Plaza, Holiday Inn and the Manila Hotel. This stint ranges from 1975 to 1980.
On 1979, he lost his left leg in a bombing accident, probably terrorism. He was at the restroom near the trash bin at that time. Unknowingly, the bomb was hidden in the trash and suddenly exploded. Now, Nonoy had his leg artificial. Because of his artificial leg, he walked slowly thus adapting the title as the slowest balladeer. This monicker was actually a joke from Rico Puno during the Greatest Hits Concerts.
In spite of being handicapped, this how made Nonoy a successful soloist. He served as an inspiration to other disabled that nothing can hinder in achieving dreams if tried their very best. He was tapped to sing the theme song of the Year of the Disabled on 1980. The song was entitled "Ako Ay Ikaw Rin".
With his several hit albums, Nonoy emerged as one of the country's most enduring entertainers. In the height of his fame, he also hosted programs in TV. He so-hosted the longest running TV Public Service Program, "Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko" of GMA Network. He is also the one who sang the show's theme song of the same title. He was featured in an info-med TV program of IBC 13 entitled "MedTalk with Dr. Z". He headed also "EcoWise" and "NOW". This two companies deal with a preservation and conservation of the environment through proper waste disposal and the manufacture and marketing of organic product.
All his performances and concerts were well-acclaimed. He does not limit himself within the corners of the country. He extends his talents in the different countries like U.S., Australia, Japan, South Korea, China and New Zealand.
On 2003, he teamed up with Rico J. Puno and Marco Sison for an unforgettable 3 Valentine shows held at the Music Museum dubbed as Greatest Hits 2. the show was a great hit and paved for another show, now with 4 other artists, Hajji Alejandro, Rey Valera, Rico J. Puno and Marco Sison at the Araneta Colliseum. The concert was a smash hit as the Big Dome was filled with almost 25,000 fans.
On 2004, he had a successful Valentine concert with Marco Sison, Miguel Vera and Ai-Ai de las Alas. The following year as proven to be more colorful as he held different shows outside the country, in Hong Kong,Dubai, U.S. and Australia.
When it comes to recording, he released 12 CD's of gold and platinum status. Some of his songs were integrated in compilation albums with other famous artists as Martin Nievera, Lani Misalucha, Jaya, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Nora Aunor etc.
His latest album was released on 2005 under the label of Viva Records. The album was dubbed as The Love Album, turned gold after two months and platinum after five months of its release. Zuñiga's two favorite singles from the album were "Too Shy To Say" and "Moon River".
