Count Basie, Zoot Sims, Cleveland Eaton, Duffy Jackson, and Roy Eldrige. From a Special in 1979. The video quality is not the greatest, but man can these cats swing!! Have you ever seen a drummer enjoy playing as much as Duffy Jackson? This cat plays a mean set of drums! This clip defines pure JAZZ. What more can be said. This is what Jazz is all about!! The name of this piece, I have since learned, is "Booty's Blues". Enjoy!!

love how locked in basie and cleveland eaton are, and how they play 2 extra choruses, at one point ( 1:58 ) it's almost like basie says "yeah that's a good save...." to cleveland after they tried to establish eye contact with Zoot at the turnaround of the past two chorus. though the phrasing is pretty clear if you're listening to them. Particularly when basie slams the downbeat at the top of the form... Heads up, zoot! nice solo though, once he took his ...3rd... cue.

I'm a bass player. I wish I could play like that. What was wrong with the bass playing? This cat KNOWS what he is doing and is a master of the upright bass.

it seems like Zoot was suppose to start his solo 12 bars earlier and CB looks a little pissed. What do you think?

I'm not sure what happened, but it seems like he was caught up into listening to Cleve, Count, and Duffy and forgot he was supposed to come in! But when he did, he did it in a "cool" style, as if though he meant to do it that way!

Duffy Jackson is teaching my Jazz Band at school on Friday, all day with him, $70 a person though, I get to skip all my classes TLE haha!
