@UltimateEEnEFan he did on-and-off commentating through the 90s with various networks - usually CBS/TBS/TNN. Too bad he's gotten so senile the last few years. Listening to him on FOX is painful.... actually ALL the commentating on Fox is terrible lol.

He was a part timer and by that I mean 5 or 6 races a year
For the last half of 1997 and thorugh 1998 he owned his own team, the 47, and usually only ran the superspeedway races like daytona and talladega. he tried his hand with other teams but always ended up getting let go His cars were fast enough on the big tracks though, He might have borrowed or bought engines and bodies

Wow, 1999 and still a Ford Thunderbird still being used (Rick Mast's #98) that gotta be the latest the Thunderbirds were used.I dont recall it being in the 500 that year..
