I have been a songwriter for over twenty years and have many songwriting hereos...but,
none of them rate higher than Johnny Mercer. The man!!!

@AJNorth I remember reading something like that years ago about Mercer and liked him even more because of it; but Nat has always been number one for me,... even as a 17 year old when the Beatles came they couldn't beat out Nat King Cole.

Warmth and talent-they obviously liked and admired each other.

What a treasure!

Thank you so much for posting -- I have a radio clip of them playing this song, where Nat coughs right after Johnny saings, "We're gonna...", then promptly ad libs with '...have a frog' -- I'm 42 in a week, and am so happy this fantastic music was made.

@DrDespicable Yes. This particular show was a half-hour tribute to the songs of Johnny Mercer. You haven't lived till you've seen Johnny's version of Nat's "Send for Me".

What a treat! Two top musicians together singing a fun song with accurate two-part harmony...

Saw this on a tribute to Johnny Mercer a few months ago - thought it was the cutest duet ever! Seems like they really enjoyed working together on this little song! Thank you COHMercer - I'd been looking for this song since I saw the tribute! Love it!

Two of my favorites -- together!!! Thank you sooooooo much COHMercer!!
You're right, MustangCharger, about his voice. And, he's got soul!
Mercer, co-founder of Capitol Records, was the first prominent white label to sign a black artist to a major recording contract. When Cole got the run-around trying to purchase a home in Beverly Hills, Mercer interceded and the deal went through. That Mercer came from the deep South (Savannah, GA), during the peak of segregation is a testament to the man. Cole and Mercer - two class acts.

Everytime I play a song I like, Mercer's name is on it.
