it's an old one for sure!

It's really unfair - all the trumpet and trombone players got those cool looking homburg hats to wave around - why not the sax players? ;)

The original recording by Glenn Miller, Victor 20-1546, was a monster hit in 1944, reaching no. 12 on the Billboard charts. The record was a massive "crossover" hit, going all the way to no. 2 on the Billboard Harlem Hit Parade Chart, which was then the equivalent of the R&B chart. Woody Herman and Johnny Long also recorded the song. Chummy MacGregor co-wrote the music.

I have the original (written) arrangement of this in my collection--and to my recollection this version is only slightly different ( in terms of voicings). My gosh, though, how it's character can change when you speed up the tempo and allow those brass to play over their stands!! What fire!! Why couldn't most of the subsequent Miller bands play like this--rather than sounding like Guy Lombardo on steriods? I know why--because Ray McKinley had balls!!! Thanks for this real posting!
The drummer is Mr. Jim Lackey. ( My Daddy) He is now 75,still playing. C.O.L.D. (Charlottes Oldest Living Drummer) Thanks for the talent!!! Ill never be as good as you----Keep on wearing those skins out POPS!!!! LOVE YOU !!---JAY.
