Consuming whale meat is seen by many as barbaric and unnecessary. But the Japanese say eating the meat is part of their culture.
Commercial whaling has been banned since the mid 1980s, but Japan justifies its annual hunt in the name of science.
So how is whaling viewed by the Japanese?
