Stagmomantis californica female laying her first ootheca. This was recorded in 30 second segments, all connected together, and made 10 times faster. The whole process took about 3 hours. The ootheca contains probably 100-200 eggs.

cool i like when it shows that the stomach is gitting smaller and smaller!! Did she mate with a male?? If yes, how many days did it took before she laid this egg sack after mating???

i found an egg sack once, they were going to squash it so i took it home. my cat got to it and thought it was a ball... a couple months later i ended up with a room full of baby praying mantis

That was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I have always been facinated with the Praying Mantis. I have seen the babies being born, but the mother laying eggs really makes the difference. Thanks for sharing!
