This is so creepy. But I don't think he killed Diane, he just doesn't seem like the type of guy who'd kill anyone. I personally think that someone else killed Diane and maybe Hugh found out who did it, then that person killed Hugh. Hugh's disappearance doesn't make sense either. Just because Hugh changed his story doesn't mean he did anything..he was probably happy that she was gone for the way she treated him

It's pretty obvious he killed her, felt guilty about it after some time passed, and then decided to go on the lam. Why would he change his story? He's probably dead by now too, either from homelessness, or suicide. Moral of the story: don't kill your wife.

he killed her

This was one of my favorite episodes when the show originally aired.
I've always thought that Hugh was lured by someone along side the road and murdered. He was known for his kindness and generosity and would have stopped to help anyone who thought was in trouble.
I've also always wondered if the wife's death was an accident.. killed by her own dogs chasing something or running from something. Why would they leave her alone?
Thanks @UMonrequest for the upload.

Thank you so much for posting this! He was a friend of my parents' and I've wanted to see this episode forever but I didn't want to go rooting through a giant box of VHS tapes.

I love eccentric characters like this... they totally marched to their own beat. My guess is Hugh killed his wife by accident during a fight, and then drove out to kill himself. Very sad, but sounds like he was a great guy overall.

This case is so ... mysterious.
I wonder what ever happened to him?
