  • This may be just a civil defense film, but it is still the Austin in which I grew up.

  • Just decided to look up the ATX and found this. Interesting!

  • I believe Tom Ogden was the name of man who played the advertising man at 6:40. He 'sent the secretary 'Caroline Gilbert' to the basement. I believe he was a salesman for KTBC during the late 50s or early 60s - hard to remember.

whatever, he missed the credits and I thought deserved a mention.

  • My father had a Fallout Shelter in our home. Actually, it was the hall closet in the center of our house on Greenlawn Parkway off Shoal Creek. But it was stocked with food, water, etc. so we would have plenty of food when the bomb came. Seriously. My mother griped because it took up too much of her room for placing the linens. Boy those were the good ole days.

  • I was in high school when this was made and I forgot how small Austin was. Too funny!

  • yep this is what Austin and Austinites looked like when I was in high school. Too funny. Sure brings back great memories, especially the ladies at home wearing dresses.

  • @cme98 The nukes came from Russia, but our RADAR was unable to detect them until they were over Canada.

  • Really, reaaly creepy smile at 11:09. Maybe Phillips screwed him overon a policy back in '58.

  • Whew, what a couple of weeks! Let's go over to Threadgill's!

  • What to take from this.

    BLAME CANADA!!! BLAME CANADA!!

The salesman was a fictional idiot we know. But seriously "Of no consequence" That is dark man!
