The good professor speaks the truth. America is being run for the benefit of the wealthiest few.

"What's happening to this country?"
It's preparing for a violent revolution where most of the rich--and those perceived as rich by the vigilante masses--will end up very fucking dead.

Perhaps you are paid to shill here--there and everywhere else; thus, your comment. However, if not, you simply do not understand the sociopathology of the rich: the majority will only acheive some vision of the upsidedown nature of their values--and, hence, the value of their natures--during the time it takes their severed heads to fall to the ground--or during the remaining six seconds they have to ponder Saching [sic] hell.

I listened to my Republican Congressman say "We can't tax corporations because they will just pass the charges on to the consumer." YET Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, charge the oil corporations TAXES.....
When Texas Refineries couldn't get anyone to buy the $4 gal gas...tankers sat off the Libyan shore... If their product isn't moving...they listen.... This is NOT about taxes...it 's GREED...

@MaryWaterton Do you understand what a university professor does? You seem a little slow, so I'll help. Tenured professors don't normally teach undergrads, they research and travel their subject, which is exactly what Sachs is doing here. I doubt he is receiving "multi-million" dollar grants from the US Government for the purposes of denouncing it, but if he is, please cite your sources.
And then you denounce big government and then say the government should regulate college tuition... hahahaha

Dang right. We need to raise taxes on university professors who make 6-figure salaries and generally don't do 10 hours of teaching per week. That doesn't include the multi-million dollar grants they get from the Federal Government for their "research".
Oh, and instead of raising tuition at twice the rate of inflation, why don't the states regulate university tuition the way they do insurance rates and power bills? People like Jeffrey Sachs have a vested interest in keeping the Government BIG.

haha... have you paid attention to politics at all? politics have been messed up since the late 70s, when the super conservatives took over, it used to be that the US was a moderate country, actually somewhat left due to the "new deal", which created the middle class image of the US. now the US is being torn apart by the rich. I will be looking forward to the United Socialist States of America in the future if things keep going the way it is.

Oh, and I'm done with funding the army core of engineers spending my money trying to save a swamp in Louisiana called the 9th ward. We've plenty of clean drinking water as well if you're type would have closed the border 50 years ago! As for school grants, the only ones getting rich are the professors who's pay outgrows inflation every single year, all funded by grants, giveaways, "research" money and untaxed endowments keeping the elitists wealthy.

Sachs, you idiot. You’re type has had 70 years of ever bigger social meddling yet inner cities have never look worse. The education gap hasn’t closed. God forbid we should cut “help for the poor”, we in Michigan bob the suburbs to fund Detroit students $15,000 per student per year while me own kids are funded at 9,000 per year and even so, Detroit only graduated 32 frikin’ percent of it’s kids!!! Enough! Your type has had it’s 70 years of disastrous programs!
