Japan only fought Russia for a short period at the very end of WWII, how did they manage to invent a new breadcrumb in this time?

The story as I have been told - during the war the Japanese Army did not have time to stop and bake bread for the troops, so a military engineer did an experiment in which they hooked up tank batteries to the containers holding the raw bread dough and cooked it by running electric current through the bread. Our plant still uses this process and Panko bread is cooked with electric current vs heat creating a unique crust-less bread. The result is an airy light texture Panko crumb

The word Panko is from the word PAN (pronounced Pahn or Pon) which means bread in Japanese and KO (pronounced Ko) meaning small pieces so Panko (pronounced Pon Ko) means small pieces of bread. Most people pronounce it Pan Ko because of the spelling but I prefer the traditional Pon Ko. Thanks

Fascinating. This is a well made and informative video that I enjoyed watching. Thank you. As someone who likes Japanese food, even though I cannot currently afford it, I was aware of panko but thought it was just a Japanese word for breadcrumbs. I can see that it is far from that. Is your product available in the UK?

Feedback: I would have liked a close up of the graters and slightly longer stills of the process. An excellent video though, and I now know something new. Thank you very much.

Thank you for your comments and our Panko and Tempura batter mix are available in the UK. Contact Centaur Foods in Pucklechurch, South Gloucestershire. They primarily sells to restaurants in large packages (9kg) but they might also repack into smaller containers.

As a promo video, you might want to work on a better announcer voice. I'm not sure how to tell you to learn it. But, right now, you sound bored. You need more energy.

Finally someone pronounces Panko like I've always thought it should be. Most of the youtube videos pronounce it pain ko.

Great video! At 4:50, you have "Better Plate Presenation" - thought you'd like to fix that. ;-) Say, you don't show your proprietary grating screen, wonder why!?!?! >;-) OK, ok... (But I'm going to guess, from the shape of the crumbs, that it's a rotating drum shaped cheese-grater-looking thing....) Congratulations on taking pride in making a quality product, and in sharing the info with such a nice video -- I love businesses that care about what they do.
