The Minneapolis Free Music Society(MFMS) is an improvisational music collective consisting if about 35 Twin Cities based improvisers and was founded by Jaime Paul Lamb in 2008. This group is part of a long tradition of improvised music collectives, drawing influences from groups including the Association from the Advancement of Creative Musicians, the London Musicians' Collective and the Jazz Composers Guild. The Society's goals have deliberately never been clearly defined. However, its' members share a basic desire to create improvised music that resists easy categorization.
