This show was very, very meaningful to me growing up and had a big impact on the things I found funny. I have tried time and time again to find it -- the Duck's Breath Mystery Theatre troupe did versions of this character elsewhere (a PBS special, and most notably a regular NPR segment), but the single-season children's show on FOX eluded me. I think it even won an Emmy before it was cancelled.
Dr. Science is bombastic, self-absorbed, arrogant, not really the expert he purports himself to be, and deep down just wants to be respected. This is every protagonist I've ever written. Also, it didn't hurt that Dan Coffey (Dr. Science) looked exactly like my dad, who is also a scientist, so I was predisposed to liking him.
This little show laid the groundwork for what I think is funny today. On the Betamax cassette my dad transferred to DVD, there were about four episodes out of the show's only season. I'm so excited to see this opening sequence again.
I wish I could find all of these! I'm a member of the fan club! Still have the letter, button, and sticker.

I absolutely loved this show during its all-too-brief run, my family and I still randomly quote it now and then. Thank you so much for the flashback!
