This is a brief excerpt from "Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue" (1953), a classic Walt Disney film starring Richard Todd and Glynis Johns.
After the 1715 defeat of the clans, one of the highland leaders, Rob Roy MacGregor (Todd) escapes, lives as an exile, marries, and eventually becomes enough of a nuisance to King George I to be outlawed, and hunted by the English.
I think in 1715 Rob would be wearing the Auld MacGregor tartan. Made with vegetable dye it was more orange than red. Many MacGregors still wear it to this day.
I had forgotten what a wonderful movie this was, YDDA! Handsome Richard Todd, beautiful Glynis Johns and the immortal Finlay Currie. Must have seen it when I was 8 or 10 years old, in the theater or maybe on TV ("The Wonderful World of Disney"?), back when Disney was making great films for a family audience. Thanks, YDDA, for the memories.
