If you have children under 18 that have a pre-existing medical condition, starting in September of 2010, you'll be able to add that child to an existing family health insurance policy, and they can't be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition, And, if your child qualifies for an individual insurance policy -- that's a policy just for them - the insurer cannot exclude coverage for any of your child's pre-existing conditions. In addition, all new and existing health insurance policies bought by individuals and families will have better consumer protections built-in to the policy. Starting in 2014, health reform will allow anyone - regardless of their level of health - to buy private health insurance and it provides subsidies to help lower-income families pay for the cost of their health insurance.
