I think that Class 73s have to enter depots on diesel power.

No as the 73's have been on the Juice entering and exitingthe depot before. It had to go onto diesel this time due to a 444 derailing in the depot the day before and the Juice being turned off. It had to move some stranded units around.

They are Electro-Diesels. They can work from 750v 3rd rail or from a 600hp English Electric engine if needed.
The reason why this was going from juice to diesel was becasue 444039 had derailed in the depot area the afternoon before causing a nice bit of damage to the track. most of the Class 442's were out berthed at Bournemouth Poole & Weymouth stations as the juice had to be turend off in the depot. Hence the reason why 73235 was on diesel as it entered the depot to do some shunting.
