Having just arrived from Woking 73235 comes off of 3rd rail and changes over to diesel due to a derailment in Bournemouth Depot. May 8th 2005

  • I think that Class 73s have to enter depots on diesel power.

  • No as the 73's have been on the Juice entering and exitingthe depot before. It had to go onto diesel this time due to a 444 derailing in the depot the day before and the Juice being turned off. It had to move some stranded units around.

  • They are Electro-Diesels. They can work from 750v 3rd rail or from a 600hp English Electric engine if needed.

    The reason why this was going from juice to diesel was becasue 444039 had derailed in the depot area the afternoon before causing a nice bit of damage to the track. most of the Class 442's were out berthed at Bournemouth Poole & Weymouth stations as the juice had to be turend off in the depot. Hence the reason why 73235 was on diesel as it entered the depot to do some shunting.
