Miss Etta James sang Piece of My Heart as if she wrote it herself when I heard her perform at the Belly Up Tavern in Solano Beach.in the 1980s. During the concert, Etta James gave proper respect to the song's first singer, Miss Erma Franklin. Written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns, Piece of My Heart hit the Top 10 British charts when Erma Franklin's soulful recording was released in 1967. Erma Franklin is the older daughter of Reverend C.L. Franklin and Aretha Franklin's older sister.

In her prime, Etta James could nail every female singer to the ground. NOBODY came near her powerful. emotional drive.

Like Billie Holiday,Etta sang from experience..she lived the life. Others were mere copyists who felt they had to beat themselves up in order to sing like her.

Please don't compare a performer who is gravely ill here with someone who bowd out in their 20's.

How many of those you people you mention here would've performed like this at 70 with terminal illness?
