This clip is a compilation of video taken at various Southern California warbird events. The Hellcat with the Royal Navy markings (owned by the Friedkin family and based at the Planes of Fame Museum at Chino, California) has recently been repainted in US Navy colors. The Hellcat is powered by the Pratt & Whitney 2,800 cu./in. R-2800, 2,000 horsepower engine.

  • The best kill ratio of any Allied fighter of the war.

  • Thank God it was repainted back to US colors!

  • 2000 hp of pure zero killing power

  • Amazing Engine Sound!!!

This sound makes the blood in my veins rush!!

  • I... I... LOVE IT!!!

  • they sound good alright

  • Awesome sound, awesome bird.

  • @galoon I am infinately jealous, I love the old navy birds, but have never had a chance to see one fly, trying to plan a trip to Midland, Tx or Chino, CA to see some. Pleanty of old AF birds up in my neck of the woods, they aren't bad but nothing like the big old navy birds.

  • @WardogOtter I agree--toward the end of the video, that definitely sounds like a supercharger whine on the Hellcat. It does sound cool, doesn't it? I can only imagine what it sounds like from the cockpit up there--an awesome chorus of sound from the big Pratt & Whitney radial, the supercharger, and the rushing wind! I think even the F4F Wildcat sounds great in flight--I got to see one perform at an airshow a few years ago.

  • @galoon If I'm thinking right the whine on a hellcat is from the super charger, and or the props, but don't quote me on that, but the corsair yes the oil coolers cause a unique whistle. what ever the reason for the sound on the Hellcat it's a beautiful sound.
