  • Nice "outside of the box" thinking to find the symmetry in this circuit, resulting in the discovery that V4 voltage is 1/2 Vcc, and simplifying the solution for the rest of the circuit. One question remains (and I apologize for my lack of experience in recognizing this): what is the essential nature of this circuit? In other words, does it have a real-world purpose, or is it simply a lab design for illustrative purposes?

  • @aerofart I would venture for the last option. It is an end of chapter no answer exercise, marked as "challenging", that the other section colleague proposed to all the 300 students of this course. We alternate the choosing of assignment questions.

  • Great. I was just asking because I've seen "transistors" with two pins (and the third removed or not used) on circuit boards that I've disassembled and have always been curious as to what was going on. At first I thought it could be that the transistor was being used as a diode, but this lesson illustrates yet another function. Thanks for the reply and for your EXCELLENT lessons!
