Karen Swensen reports on two sisters who both suffered with breast cancer and their struggles to find hair coverings suitable for the loss of hair associated with chemotherapy. Chemo Beanies is a family business and was founded out of love and necessity when two of us were diagnosed with Breast Cancer and subsequently lost our hair during treatment.

Our search for comfortable, stylish ways to cover our hair loss left us feeling disappointed. We tried all the hair loss 'solutions'- the cute hats that look great in the photos but don't really translate to everyday life around the house, the traditional 'cancer turban' that met the comfort criteria but lacked the certain style we were looking for, the Bandanas and Scarves, which gave us the option of colors and styles we wanted, but proved difficult to tie and hard to keep in place. We also tried wigs. Some people can pull wigs off and look great, but with the hair we inherited, a hair style similar to ours felt unnatural, hot (we live in New Orleans, Louisiana) and overall...uncomfortable.

We knew exactly what we wanted--a comfortable, easy, stylish head cover we could throw on and go without a fuss. We designed our Chemo Beanies to be like a favorite T-shirt. Our beanies have a great fit with a bunching in the back to give height and fullness and a back ruffle to cover the bare neck and provide a little feminine flare. We chose only the softest materials with the perfect amount of stretch to naturally adjust for a secure fit on any size head.

We know the issues women deal with when battling this disease and believe that our product will make life a little easier by providing fashionable, comfortable head wear that won't slow you down. It's so important to focus on getting better and to stay positive and it doesmake it easier to feel good about how you look. (COPYRIGHTS ACKNOWLEDGED)

  • Strength through suffering. Angelle evangelizes the culture with chemobeanies!

  • This is a special story, and those of us who have been bald know all to well how awkward it is to cover your head tastefully. The ease of it and the soft fabric is what I like best!
