Video (and lots of audio) from a Grizzly bear charge in Alaska. Very scary. The cameraman wisely dropped the camera to grab his gun, (although the video would have been awesome!)...I didn't want to have to shoot her, so I fired 2 warning shots during the time she charged. Then another 4 to keep her from coming closer....

Wow, the comments on this post never cease to amaze me. They range from "you should not have been in her backyard" to "you should have used pepper spray" to "you shouldn't have disturbed her"...to "it was probably defending her cubs"..The bottom line was, that bear was threatening to harm our equipment, and made an aggressive charge that ultimately threatened our lives. I did my research, and knew all the right actions to take during a bear encounter. And unfortunately, I had to utilize those actions. We were hundreds of miles away from any hospital or emergency services (and the only way out by helicopter) I had to take immediate actions to defend myself and the survival gear I carried with me. Pepper spray works at 40 feet. Not 80 yards when it started it's charge. That bear was NOT SCARED OF ME, and it was NOT defending her cubs. Pepper spray would not have stopped it. Legally, I could have killed that bear without question, but I chose to wait until the last possible second. Please don't post critisism on my page if you know nothing about how to deal with bears, or if you aren't familiar with the wilds of alaska, or if you want to post anything negative in general. It's reality, and sometimes that isn't pretty. The bear and I were able to part ways without harm, and I am happy about that. But it was dangerously close to being more than just a life threatening situation.

  • I tip my hat to you and your buddies. There are WAY to many people that would use this situation as an EXCUSE to shoot a bear. It is the last thing I would want to do, but like you, would have, only as an absolute last resort. Obviously, it was the last thing you wanted to do and you did everything you could and it resulted in a positive outcome. I respect that.

  • nerves of steel man. good call; glad you didn't have to use lethal force

  • Hey bear

  • This is why Pepper spray is so good....

  • I would love to see a demonstration of one of the "bear spray ninjas" stopping an all-out serious bear charge, especially if the wind happened to be blowing. I'm thinking it would be a gory sight! Reading the comments, it is very obvious those that have been there and those that have read about it. Good job!

  • "The bottom line was, that bear was threatening to harm our equipment" stupid ass you got no balls anyway whats there to protect?

  • lol why where they calling her? i think she heard them saying "hey, bear, come o'er here!

  • she probably charged cause these two fools were yelling hey bear.it was almost like they were calling her to come to them so she did

  • @Hbue84 You set the tent in your living room and rent the planet earth blu-ray. That's how you protect yourself at night from bears, when camping.

  • Looked like fun gentlemen. I suggest you learn how to use a bull whip, you can make some serious noise without wasting any ammo,,, or a 12g will do just fine.

  • Why did she charge & how close did she get?

  • 2 star wanted level???
